In November 2012, I retired from a thirty year career in the museum profession to open “Tom Jones Fine Arts” to serve clients in the Midland-Odessa area. I offer a range of services including fine art appraisals, collecting consultation, and art brokerage. My specialization is American and European art with an emphasis on art of the American Southwest including early Texas art.
I am an independent, non affiliated appraiser and former member of the ISA (2013-2022). I am currently only providing appraisal reports for Insurance purposes and Client Information. My appraisals are done according to both the ISA (International Society of Appraisers) standards and ethics and adhere to USPAP (the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice).
There may be times when your value question does not require a formal written appraisal. In these situations, I can offer clients a "professional opinion of value” (POV). This is not an appraisal, but a cost-effective way to obtain information to help identify and price art for an upcoming sale.
I offer a range of art brokerage services to assist clients in acquiring and selling art - from locating art and performing market research to negotiating discounts through galleries, purchasing art at auction, or directly through private sales. My goal is to insure that the purchase price is fair and in-line with current market value for comparable works. This applies to selling your art as well.
My 30 years’ experience as both a curator and director of four American art museums together with a Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from Clemson University, and specialized training through the ISA has provided me with the unique skills necessary to appraise and consult on a wide range of art.
